Sicarius · About
Sicarius is an Australian security firm operating across three practices: cybersecurity posture management, digital forensic investigations, and open-source intelligence.
Why I started Sicarius
I have spent more than twenty years in digital forensics and cybersecurity. I started my career in law enforcement — first at the Office of Police Integrity in Victoria, then with the Australian Federal Police. In those roles I learned how to follow the digital trail that criminals leave behind: the metadata, the access logs, the artefacts that tell you exactly who did what and when. I gave evidence in court. I supported investigations that helped make communities safer.
After law enforcement I moved into the private sector and eventually into global roles — building digital forensic and incident response capabilities for a major pharmaceutical company across three continents, then leading incident response teams across Asia-Pacific for one of the region's specialist cyber firms. I have seen the aftermath of ransomware attacks that cripple an organisation for weeks. I have seen strong businesses go out of business after a cyber attack. I have watched boards learn for the first time that they had no backups, no plan, and no idea how it happened.
"The pattern I kept seeing was not random. The attackers were not sophisticated. They were opportunistic — and they were going after the businesses that had been left unprotected."
Big business in Australia is well-funded and well-defended. Large organisations have security operations centres, dedicated teams, enterprise tools, and boards that ask hard questions about cyber risk. Small and medium businesses have almost none of that. They are the majority of the Australian economy and the easiest targets in it. The tools that exist for them are either too technical, too expensive, or too detached from the business decisions that actually matter. Most SME owners know they should be doing something about security. Very few have a clear picture of whether what they are doing is actually working. That gap was the reason I started Sicarius in 2023.
We built Beacon because we were tired of arriving after the fire had already started. Our whole philosophy is to put expert security in front of the attack — monitoring, detecting, and responding before a breach becomes a crisis. We translate the technical reality of your security posture into the language that directors and business owners actually use: are we protected, would we know if something went wrong, can we recover, and can we prove it? Those are the four questions that matter. Beacon answers all of them, continuously.
Sicarius is not a large company. We are deliberate about that. Every client we take on gets genuine expert attention — not an automated alert and a ticket number. We hold the tools, we run the monitoring, and when something happens, we respond. The name comes from the Latin word for a skilled and precise operator. That is exactly what we strive to be.
